Quantum Engineering Corporation (QEC) is a small business specializing in building and selling the Electromagnetic Borehole Flowmeter (EBF), training new users, and performing field tests with the EBF system under contract to others . Four of the QEC staff invented the EBF.

The EBF measures flow rates in cased or uncased wells primarily to support environmental studies of contaminated groundwater. Other uses include groundwater exploration, mining operations, and optimizing production from water supply wells. The EBF measures flow rates with greater accuracy and over a wider range of flow velocities than any other downhole flowmeter.

Results from a flowmeter test are useful for environmental investigations in:

  • Planning an effective network of monitoring wells;
  • Providing input data to a resolution required by new sophisticated computer models; and
  • Designing effective groundwater remediation systems.

During the last five years, QEC has conducted tests for clients in 12 states. QEC also designs customized versions of the EBF for unique test requirements.
